Deadly Liaisons, Heart of the Huntress Series, Book 4

Fantasy Landscape
My first love of vampires was about Count Dracula, a play at Brevard Community College when I was thirteen and my mother took me to see it. We went to a pre-showing so they could work out all the kinks. The "fog" disappeared before the Count slipped into the floor. Count Dracula tripped over a rug twice, trying not to react to the annoying interference and keep up with his lines, but we were all laughing and he smiled the second time. Bats flew over our heads. And we had the most fun. But I was ready to offer my neck to the suave vampire, and always felt he deserved to be loved too.

But I am reasonable. My huntresses have powers of their own, fight-worthy ability, changed at the same time that vampires were during the Black Death, but just weren't changed in the same ways that the vampires were.  It's their calling to take down the rogues. And vampires can't control their will like they can humans. It just wouldn't be fair. If a huntress is going to fall for a vampire, she has to do it because she just can't resist him as a man, not because of some hypnotic power he has. That helps to level the playing field. And I couldn't imagine falling in love with a cold dead thing, so my vampires are hot, alive, and just live longer than most.

Deadly Liaisons is a reissue, but I've tied in the four vampire novels, Killing the Bloodlust (book 1), Huntress for Hire (book 2), Forbidden Love (book 3), and Deadly Liaisons (book 4) and am working on Dangerous Liaisons, (Book 5) in the Heart of the Huntress Series.  They're about huntresses with a dark past and the hunter or vampires that turn their worlds upside down.

In the first, Killing the Bloodlust, that's based at Fort Hood where I worked as a brand new second lieutenant. Some of what happened to her, happened to me. Staff duty, the army swimming pool qualification training--and other things, no vampires or hunters though--but it was fun to turn real life experiences into an urban fantasy world.

In Deadly Liaisons:

Overview

He resisted the dark huntress...now he'll use all his powers to make her his own.
Tezra Campbell treads a dangerous line between her job as a telepathic investigator for the Hunter Council and her alternate life as a renegade. Beneath her cool, professional exterior lies a dark obsession to find the rogue vampire who murdered her parents ten years ago and left her sister a traumatized shell. An obsession that drives her to use herself as bait.

Daemon, former bastard prince of Scotland and now head of the American vampire clans, sees Tezra as a danger to herself and to his people. Especially if the killer vampire takes her bait. Concerned his own brother might be accused of the crime, Daemon takes Tezra into custody, intending to keep her out of the way so he can find the killer himself.

Things don't work out the way either planned. The more she fights him with her telepathic powers, the more she stirs up his sexual bloodlust--the kind only a mate can cool. And Tezra begins to wonder...is her desire for him real, or just a way to use Daemon to find the murderer?

It's a deadly game they both aim to win--even while they try to keep their hearts intact.

Vampires will never die. I loved them as a kid, and still do.

Cougar shifter, Dr. Kate Parker, is planning her annual camping vacation alone this year. She runs into trouble before she even starts her trip in the form of one wounded, hot cougar undercover cop—or so he says. He’s not going along with just her tender loving care because he came into town as a cougar, and he needs her help to get him back to where he can take up the search to look for an arms dealer, who just happens to be a cougar too.

Leyton Hill slipped into the unlocked, darkened clinic, figuring his luck had just changed. Except he doesn’t plan for the good doctor to be napping in her office. Taking him on her vacation wasn’t in the plan, and taking her hostage, hadn’t been either, but now she’s stuck with him until he can get back to his mission and the chase at hand. It appears the roles have reversed and who’s holding whom hostage now?

I took the pictures of the cougar in Omaha. It was amazing that he was so close to the fence and stayed there. Usually jaguars are sleeping in spots hard to see or pacing.

Have a super wonderful day. I’m so excited! It’s up, it’s up, it’s up! And I didn’t make a mistake in getting it up there! I was beginning to wonder!

Jaguar Pride Releases!!!

JaguarPride_041714_B
An impossible mission…
JAG Special Forces agents Huntley Anderson and Melissa Overton are hot on the trail of poachers when they’re suddenly saddled with two jaguar shifter cubs. They have to locate the parents, pronto-but who’s going to babysit in the meantime?
A lifetime of possibilities… Huntley is a rough, tough jaguar shifter and an all-business agent, but he’s not going to let two abandoned youngsters come to any harm on his watch.
Seeing her super-manly partner try to get the playful cubs under control stirs up some unexpected desires in Melissa, and she begins to feel like Huntley’s not the only one who’s in over his head…
Excerpt from Jaguar Pride by Terry Spear:
Melissa had never had a mission that had turned her world so upside down like this one had. She always had a plan. Maybe not a great one, but she always had some notion of what she was going to do next. This. Was. A. Disaster!
Not only was she feeling highly agitated and concerned about the jaguars the poachers had taken off with, now believing they had to be the parents to these two cubs because there couldn’t be that many shifters in the park at one time, she didn’t think, she worried how they’d care for a couple of baby jaguars.
And Huntley. What an all-around catastrophe, though she was thanking God that the cubs were all right and that at least she and Huntley had been here to care for them in the interim. And that Huntley would be fine. She thought.
The mother had to have smelled that jaguars had slept here, knew they were shifters, and hoped they’d take care of them. The problem was that the babies would be nursing, not adding meat to their diet until they were three months old. They had to get them back to their lodge and then Melissa had to get milk for them, pronto, even though mother’s milk would have been much preferred.
Melissa was so rattled, she had begun to take care of Huntley’s head wound out of instinct, not realizing she’d cleaned it, administered an antibiotic, and bandaged his head before she even knew it. She called her boss right after that.
“Martin, we’ve got a terrible problem.” She explained everything that had happened, and as worried as she was about Huntley, the cubs and the parents, she felt chilled to the core.
What if any park rangers came across them and found them with the cubs? They’d take them away from them and then take them to a facility. And she and Huntley could be arrested for trying to poach the jaguar kits. What if the mother shifted, which would cause the cubs to shift, and they were suddenly two little human babies?
This was a real nightmare of epic proportions.
“Okay, Melissa,” Martin said, and she didn’t realize he’d been speaking to her for some time when he said, “Melissa?”
Breaking through the fog in her brain, he repeated her name and this time she said, “Yes?”
“Listen to me. I’ll have a team there within thirty-six hours tracking down the mother and father, if the ones taken are the mother and father.”
What if they weren’t? What if the mother and father were somewhere else? No, they couldn’t be.
“Your mission, and Huntley’s, is to get the cubs to your cabana. Keep them hidden and safe. Feed them. Nurture them. Protect them at all costs. Watch Huntley. Make sure he’s all right. If his condition deteriorates—”
“He’s unconscious!”
Silence. Then the cubs began to snarl again as if she could feed them!
She felt Huntley’s cheek again, but his temperature was fine and his breathing normal.
“Yes, but we heal quickly. If that changes—he begins to get feverish or shows any other sign of infection, let me know at once. You should pack up your gear and move to the cabana tonight.”
“Huntley’s unconscious!”
A pause.
“Yes. Melissa, listen. You need to move the cubs under the fall of night. You’ve got to get them out of the park before anyone sees you with them. You’ve got to get them to your cabana before morning. I hear them in the background. They’re hungry. They’re going to give you away if anyone’s about. I hear it’s raining also. Good cover. For now. It won’t last though.”

JAGUAR PRIDE is fantastic! Author Terry Spear weaves her magic and takes her readers for an action packed, race through the jungles. I loved Hunt and Melissa and their mixed up lives and enjoyed watching as they came to slowly realize that they were perfect for each other. Having these single people deal with those cubs was funny and really sweet because not to long before they did the “never having cubs” conversation and anyone could see they would make perfect parents. I also got a kick out of the matchmaking play that had gone on behind their backs and couldn’t help but laugh at how they found out about it. There is a lot of action and camaraderie between them and other members of the different teams that come to help rescue the poached jaguars as well as the growing romance that makes this book one that you will want to keep reading to the end and then want more. This is in my TRA (to read again) shelf and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

Okay, puppies were sick ALL day yesterday. They seem to be doing well today, but I’m still cleaning all the bedding they threw up on. My watch is now repaired. I just got my computer back and everything is wiped out, so except for finally getting my blog up and running, I have nothing on my computer, so need to try to really get it up and running. My heater was not working, but it appears to be now.
And…it’s time for me to go to conference. Oh, and my editor called about edits last night, just as I was rushing a sick puppy out the door.
So not only am I 6,700 words behind on SEAL (which, considering I was 14,000 words behind, that’s not bad, and now have edits on Silver and a trip to take… *sigh*
Have a super great day. I need a vacation. :)

Giveaway at Reading Between the Wines

Kissing the Highlander final (438x640)

I’m still formatting for Kissing the Highlander. When I received everyone’s novellas, the italics were stripped out, argh, and some of the authors have tons of italicized words. That, and trying to make everything uniform as far as front and back matter and section divisions, etc. If I do this again, hopefully, we can all be on the same page next time and I won’t have to do so much reformatting.

Phantom Fae

Phantom Fae has gone out to my first beta reader. And then after I make changes and read it over again, it will go out to another.

But what I really wanted to say was that I am here with a giveaway!!! Go to Reading Between the Wines, comment and enter for a chance to win A Highland Wolf Christmas!

Highland Wolf Christmas-300 (390x640)

http://www.readingbetweenthewinesbookclub.com/2015/01/behind-author-terry-spear-giveaway.html

And now I’m off to get to work on the formatting again. Feeling anxious because the time is slipping away and I need to get started on the next SEAL wolf book due Mar 1. And I haven’t started it. I’m trying to come up with a great new opening scene to set the stage. Must have first meeting soon, show something of the world, a wolf sighting early, conflict, mystery, romance and adventure.

When I was reading books on writing, one author said to make sure you have that conflict right from the beginning. The bomb going off in the school, but not. Something that makes you want to read what happens next and next and next. Yet, you have to have character-driven plots for romance, not strictly plot-driven scenarios.

Okay, so I’m still pondering. But I need to get back to formatting Kissing the Highlander.

Have a super great Tuesday!!!

And be sure and drop by at Reading Between the Wines and enter to win!

Reviews:
Jaguar Hunt
I love that this book is set in Belize. It is one of my favorite vacation spots. Ironically enough, I read this book on my anniversary. We went to Belize on our honeymoon so the timing was appropriate. I could easily visualize their hotel and the jungle scenes. One of my favorite things about the country is that it is not overdeveloped, and the rainforest is plentiful; A great place for jaguar shifters. It is a beautiful nation and the perfect setting for this novel.

Jaguar Hunt is an action pact book with a praiseworthy plot. There were a lot of mystery and excitement, and everything was written in a believable manner. I enjoyed all the characters. Terry Spear did a great job with the character development and plot. In addition, her writing style is noteworthy.http://dianes-book.blogspot.com/2014/06/terry-spears-jaguar-hunt-book-blitz.html

David and Tammy are such fun characters that I hated that their story had to end! Hopefully, they’ll make guest appearances in future books in the Heart of the Jaguar series as I love their interplay with one another. However, teenagers Alex and Nate almost steal the show entirely with their hilarious antics. I can’t wait to see what kind of JAG agents they make!

Terry Spear captures every element perfectly in JAGUAR HUNT. From the world building to the character development, JAGUAR HUNT has it all! Terry Spear’s smooth writing style and vivid descriptions are simply breathtaking. I’ve traveled to Belize once before and Terry Spear made me want to return immediately just to once again savor the beauty she so accurately depicts.  JAGUAR HUNT is highly recommended!http://www.ck2skwipsandkritiques.com/2014/05/31/review-jaguar-hunt-by-terry-spear/

Jaguar Hunt is the third book in the Heart of the Jaguar series. I just loved the plot of this one and had such a difficult time putting it down. While it is possible to read this book as a standalone and totally enjoy it, I would recommend that if you are a fan of contemporary paranormal romance that you should just read this wonderful series. I have and I am so looking forward to the next book! http://paulettespapers.com/?p=7676#comment-18718

They say it takes a thief to catch a thief, well in this case, it takes a couple of special agent jaguar shapeshifters to catch some naughty teen shifters who might have something to do with a missing jaguar. Agents David Patterson and Tammy Anderson track the pair to Belize but things aren’t quite as simple as they initially seemed.

Both leads have quite a colourful romantic past with past lovers that crop up in their investigation. I guess that since the shifter world is fairly small, it makes sense that there would be some overlap. The romance between Tammy and David worked well with the sexual tension leading to a solid partnership. There was an air of playfulness in many of their interactions as both jaguars and humans which reflected their feline natures nicely. In many romance novels there is one clear villain but here Spear went out of her way to create a pool of likely suspects and difficult to interview. I appreciated this attention to detail as it made the investigation more robust.

I enjoyed this novel and was able to get up to speed pretty quickly even though I hadn’t read the first two – something I’ll be quickly remedying. If you’re in the mood for a flirty and fun PNR, you should definitely give this a shot. http://www.backchattingbooks.com/reviews/jaguar-hunt-by-terry-spear/#comment-16747

Cover Reveal for Jaguar Pride!

Isn't he scrumptious??? Both of them!!! I love the black jaguar in the picture also. There are no such things as black cougars, but sometimes someone will say they saw one. This is definitely a black jaguar. And Huntley Anderson. JAG agent, Golden Claws. And he is teamed up with another JAG agent. They're just after poachers, but then find themselves taking care of jaguar shifter cubs, which presents a real problem. :) And Melissa isn't about to be the one holding the cubs while Huntley continues with the mission.

Lots of fun. Okay, all the guest blogs are done, the marketing stuff for A Silver Wolf Christmas is done, and today I have to spend the day working on Jaguar Pride edits. :)  And the next few days. Then I have to finish edits on A SEAL Wolf for Sale, and then it's time for The Viking's Highland Lass. :)

Have a great hump day! Does Huntley look like he needs a back massage???
