Are You a Multi-Tasker???

SEALWolfHunting_catalog
I am. Okay, today, I’ve got to start proofing the final copy of SEAL Wolf Hunting. Don’t you love this cover? Besides the guy, I LOVE the wolf. Since I write about wolves, as  in werewolves, but they’re so human and so wolf-like that it seems sacrilegious to call them werewolves–as in a horror version of them, I love to see a beautiful wolf on the cover taking up center stage too. Why? Because the man is not just a man, but a wolf. I love this time with the book–it’s nearly done–just checking to make sure there are no other mistakes, but there are so few, that it’s a time for me to have that one last read that’s more for pleasure than anything, before you get it!

So that’s one of my number one priorities. I also want to continue to work on bears. I finished two last night. I finished making a 3rd, but still need to embroider the paws. :)

Plum large bear (393x640)
Plum bear with plum faux suede paws, 19″
Purple Bear (557x640)
Purple Bear with faux suede paws, 10 1/2″

And I want to get my word count in on She-Wolf. 2500 words a day. I need to be at 8500 today. I’m at 7200 right now. So moving right along. Usually when I get in edits, I have to quit everything and concentrate on only the edits. Then I’m playing a horrible game of catch up. So I’m trying to work on my blogs, word count, then proofing, then bears so I don’t get behind on anything. :)

It’s kind of like playing an RPG, role-playing game. I’m playing Dragon Age: Inquisition for my break time at night once I have all my other stuff done. Yesterday, besides word count, I was critiquing 10 chapters of a critique partner’s book, and while I was playing the game, I was finishing up the bears. Now, I also have to constantly stop to take puppies out, to play with them, cuddle with them, train them, feed them. So I do have other stuff going on. But in the RPG–there’s always a decision to make. Do I concentrate on the Big Boss, the guy with all the strength that is really, really hard to kill, and then work on his minions after he’s dead? Or do I tackle everyone at once? Then once the little guys are dead, I can use all my strength against the big guy?

Well, oftentimes I’ll go after the big guy while the little guys are beating at me too. And when I’m working on my projects, often I’ll tackle the one that needs to be done first–just all day long for every day that it takes to get it done. Then my stack of things to do goes down a little before it goes up a lot again.

So this is kind of a new experiment for me. Working on all things–having a goal for each, and getting each of them done, and not just working on one big project. I think it’s working, so far, because I think when I do just one major thing, I tend to take breaks anyway, and I don’t get as much done. Time will tell.

I want to get half of the proof book done today, and the other half tomorrow. That’s my goal. I need to start sewing up the other bears–4 of them, so another goal. And word count on She-Wolf.
Other than that, that’s it! :)

When you have jobs to tackle, do you go after the tough ones first, or the little ones until you’re ready to tackle the big one? I do that with first line edits. The simple stuff first. Then I tackle the bigger issues. :) When I see a page of issues, I want to reduce the number quickly. Then it doesn’t seem like so much.

Have a terrific Saturday and hope all your issues are little ones. The Big Bosses can be a real chore to deal with.

Normally, I like to have a story that is ended, no cliff hanger because it frustrates readers when they don’t know when the next book is coming, and I never know when I can finish a book when I have so many other deadlines that absolutely have to be met: ie for a publisher.
With Hawk Fae, book 5, it had to be left like it was or it would have been two books in one. And truly, I loved the way it was ended, with resolution, but with something more devious going on coming up.

With Phantom Fae, book 6, resolution. I have two covers for two more fae stories, no idea where I want to go with them at the moment, or titles for them. But when I have some time, I’ll share.
Because I worked on finalizing this up all day yesterday, I didn’t have time to work on SEAL, so I’m behind, but I’ll hopefully catch up on word count today. I will be working on the Phantom Fae print version soon, but needed to get my word count for SEAL because it’s so much harder to manage when it gets really behind. Hopefully, I’ll be at the halfway point today, if I get caught up.

It’s been raining a lot, which is unusual in the winter, but we so needed the rain again. I slipped on the wet pavement when I went to take the dogs out at 4:45, so need to find a different pair of shoes that hopefully are less slippery, or figure out something else. I have a conference to go to in a little bit and I don’t want to be running around in airports on crutches.

Oh, and I had asked my editor if they’d be interested in a historical wolf story series some time ago because I love writing historical, but she said no. My wolves also have long lives, so often I slip some of the historical aspect into them. So I thought it would be neat to have two series, the historical ones and the contemporary ones. But when she said no, that was fine with me. A rejection means an opportunity to excel. With today’s publishing options, I can just smile and say, “Okay,” and go on my merry way and write the books of my heart anyway.

A couple of years ago I listened to a NY Times bestselling author who was writing a historical series, and she had this idea for a really cool Irish historical romance series. She was so excited to write it and her agent said if she tried to push it, he’d dump her. Now, she was a highly successful author and he was making a ton of money off her, but he was afraid if he didn’t squash this far out notion, she wouldn’t make any money and he wouldn’t. So she dumped him and got a new agent, sold the series, and made bestseller status on those books. We have to write what our heart tells us and hopefully our readers will love them every bit as much.

I wonder if the agent is regretting his decision. Even if the sales hadn’t taken off, the author had to do this. It’s what we do. Create. From the heart. And if that creativity is squashed, we end up hitting a brick wall of writing block.

Editors and agents will sometimes steer us in directions that aren’t right for us because they think that’s what the market wants. But we’re still creating the stories and we have to be able to write what we can to an extent because otherwise the story just won’t come.

So here is the cover, still need to come up with a series name and title, but I think for series name: Highland Wolf Clan. Not sure on title. It will be historical, wolf, Highlands.
And I thought this was such a fantastic cover, I had to buy it for the first book. :)

That’s it! I’m listening to the rain, and it’s pouring out, typing this up, working on making the changes to SEAL that I worked on when I went to bed last night and then I’m off to write.
Have a super great Thursday. Puppies are sleeping on my lap and all is well.

Woohoo Reviews!! For A Highland Wolf Christmas!

Totally loved these reviews! I hadn’t been seeing any of these, so when my publicist sent the links,  it was exciting to see how much reviewers were enjoying the book!

I have to say something about reviewers first–they don’t get paid to do this. They love books and love sharing something about the books they’ve enjoyed. Often, it’s a thankless job. They don’t get paid, repeating this, but any time you’re doing a lot of work for no pay, it needs to be mentioned. And often they don’t get much in the line of comments back, like many bloggers don’t. So they never know if readers are even interested in their posts. So when I learn of them, I go to their sites and share them with twitter and Google + etc, and on my blog, to help spread the word that they loved my books, but also that they have a great blog there. Let them know you loved what they said about your book!
Some share directly on my Timeline on FB, and that’s great. And I do too and share with other sites I’m a member of. And I tell them how much I appreciate them. I’ve met several in person at conferences too now, and I love it!

A long time ago, I also reviewed books for a site, while I was penning my own books. Every time I read one I LOVED, I reviewed it. If I read a book I didn’t love, I didn’t review it. Most often it was because it wasn’t the kind of story I like, no fault of the author.  And so there’s really no sense in me putting down a book in a review just because it wasn’t my cup of tea.  But the site closed due to the moderators’ inability to keep up with it. And definitely, I’ve been so swamped, I had a hard time with it too.

The joy for me was reading the books and sharing the love.  I didn’t expect to get anything in return. I just enjoyed doing it. In one case, readers who loved my review of a Highlander book ended up buying my Highlander books. And in another case, a fan of the young adult author posted about my blog review and that had lots of fans of hers checking out my YA books! It wasn’t something I had anticipated at all.

Some are of the notion that reviews don’t make any difference. But I’ve seen sales based on sharing reviews.

Some say you should never engage with a reviewer because this might look like you’re buying their reviews.

Reviewers are people. They love to know when readers and authors love their reviews. It makes them feel that all the time they spend on this (oftentimes despite busy schedules of their own), that their time and effort is really valued.

So today I want to thank reviewers who have taken the time to read A Highland Wolf Christmas and share how much they loved it!

And another fantastic giveaway at The Royal Reviews!

Tea and Books
It’s back to the Highlands in Terry Spear’s latest in her Heart of the Wolf Series. And as with the rest of her work, Terry tells a wicked tale. But her Highland Wolves are just a little more fun.

We’ve been skipping around between a couple of connected clans in the Heart if the Wolf Highland series and in A Highland Wolf Christmas, we return to the MacNeils. This time they have a party to plan.

Smoldering sensuality and Highland Highjinks makes this just a fun read. Add to that the mystery of why Calla is all but forced to consider the ex.. wonderful! Terry just offers us a delightful dish that I just want to eat up!

Thanks Terry for yet another Highland Delight.

Addict of Romance
Calla is passionate and goes after what she wants. She is a she wolf, and a fighter, and when she sees Guthrie in her sights, she sees the type of man he is underneath his brooding exterior. This was such a delightful pair, there was such a strong connection that you see from the beginning, and you just want to cheer for them for the whole story. There was such a feeling of chemistry that emerges within every page that jumps out at you and clings to the reader and keeps you ever engaged.

Overall a winner of a paranormal romance!! I have adored what Terry Spear has done with this series, especially the past few books in dealing with sexy highlander that are wolf shifters….I mean seriously, can it get any better than that? This tale is packed with action packed scenes, rich filled characters, stunning detail, and a fun romp of a romance that is rewarding and a page turner to remember!! INCREDIBLY WELL DONE!! http://addictofromance.blogspot.com/2014/09/arc-book-review-highland-wolf-christmas.html

My Review:
A Highland Wolf Christmas by Terry Spear
What a delightful Scottish werewolf Christmas story!
Calla Stewart is a party planner. She has been hired by the MacNeill clan to arrange their holiday celebration, which means she will have to squeeze every dollar out of the tight wad Guthrie MacNeill. Even though she knows its going to be difficult to deal with Guthrie, Calla plans on giving the MacNeill clan a Christmas to remember.

But before Calla’s journey even begins, her ex-fiance’ turned deadly stalker accelerates his pursuit bringing out all the protective instincts of the MacNeill clan. Surprising Calla, leading her protection is none other than Guthrie, himself.

Highlander werewolves in kilts, what could be any better than that…
There is nothing like a marvelously captivating paranormal romance by Terry Spear’s to get you in the holiday spirit. A Highland Wolf Christmas is a marvelously captivating story with a great reunion of past characters we’ve come to adore. I highly recommend you ring in the holidays with A Highland Wolf Christmashttp://tometender.blogspot.com/2014/09/a-highland-wolf-christmas-by-terry.html?zx=b3dc892874baf016

Bitten by Books
Guthrie MacNeill is worried about pack finances, and believes that a Christmas party is unnecessary, especially since they have hired Calla and plan to make it a huge affair. Upon Calla’s arrival at Argent Castle, Guthrie finds himself attracted to her, and after discovering the trouble she is having with Baird stalking her, he arranges for pack members to be her personal bodyguards, keeping her in sight always. Guthrie becomes more enamored of Calla the longer she stays at Argent, and as their attraction increases, so do Baird’s evil intentions.

Calla is a definite alpha, a strong and independent woman with the courage to leave a situation that was not right for her. Guthrie is also alpha, strong, and courageous, taking on the responsibility of the pack’s finances and of educating the younger members in math and finance. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and was bothered by Baird’s constant attempts to cause harm to Calla and spark a feud between his pack and the MacNeills. A Highland Wolf Christmas was a fun and exciting story from Terry Spear, and as always, I was thoroughly captivated. http://bittenbybooks.com/a-highland-wolf-christmas-by-terry-spear/

We had tremendous storms last night and so today, it’s clearing and my workmen are coming back to do some more projects. The storm a couple of weeks ago took out some of the roofs off some buildings in Waco. Saturday’s storm, not sure. Last night was really bad again and it had me up and unplugging computers and stuff. Electricity went out 5 times. Another storm system coming in on Monday next week. But we’ve so needed the rain, I can’t complain and the temps are dropping, and I’m thrilled!

Wolf Awareness Week 2014 is October 12 – 18, 2014

I interrupt the post on the apple farm to mention this is Wolf Awareness Week.
Wolves, like most other animals, are an important part of our ecosystem. And without them, we totally screw up the environment. Sure, it’s really the deer that ate all the trees and the forests couldn’t renew, and without forests, the riverbanks eroded. And without forests, all the creatures big and small that lived there, no longer live there because they need the trees for a home. The beavers, and birds, and hawks, and rodents. All of them were lost. All for the killing off of all the wolves. When they added 4 wolves to the region, they killed off a few deer. They didn’t kill off all! Just a few to feed off of, but what happened was it changed the deers’ behavior and they quit coming to the areas around the rivers where the wolves caught them. And the trees began to regenerate because the deer weren’t eating them down. And the riverbanks began to stabilize and it changed the course of the rivers. The vegetation brought back the rodents, that brought back the hawks and eagles. And the beavers returned to build damns that provided refuge for the fish.
So it’s not just that wolves are a predator and we need to kill all predators, but that they are part of a valuable ecosystem that helps other wildlife–flora and fauna–to survive.
It reminds me of Texas and how scientists thought putting a certain tree along riverbanks would keep the soil from eroding, and guess what? Those trees actually are huge water sucks and they pulled all the water from the creeks and vast amounts of water from rivers when we have a lot of drought. So sometimes scientists get it right. But sometimes, they don’t. And sometimes scientists aren’t even involved in the exercise and animals or plants are killed wholesale for a variety of reasons and really cause us some trouble down the road. But who cares about that because we won’t live long enough to feel the repercussions. Right?
So whether we like wolves or snakes or sharks or spiders–all of these creatures have a place in our ecosystem. Can you imagine what earth would be like if we managed to kill off everything but us?
You know what would happen then!
I took some pictures of several of the animals at the Wildlife Science Center in Minnesota and wanted to show you the difference between some similar species. Can you tell which is which?
1. Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Grey Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or  Northern Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Or Mexican Gray Wolf?
1. what do you think this is?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Northern Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Or Mexican Gray Wolf?
2. And this one?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or North American Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Mexican Gray Wolf?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Northern Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Or Mexican Gray Wolf?

3. Or this one?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Grey Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Northern Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Mexican Gray Wolf?
4. How about this one?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Grey Wolf?
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Northern Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Or Mexican Gray Wolf?

5. How about this one?
 (640x454)
Red Wolf? Coyote? Or Northern Gray Wolf? Or Coyote Wolf Mix? Mexican Gray Wolf?
6. Or finally, this one?
And a bonus:
4 wolves, International Wolf Center
4 wolves, International Wolf Center
7. 2 of the wolves are litter mates, as are the other 2. Can you tell which belongs to which kind of wolf? Two are Northern gray wolves and two are Great Plains wolves. Their habitat and food sources determine their build.
Here’s another couple of pictures of them.
4 wolves, Luna looking at me (640x240)
Aidan, Luna, Boltz picking on Danali (640x376) (2)
I apologize for the photos at the science center not being any clearer. Do-gooders thought that releasing 3 female Mexican gray wolves into the wild was the best thing for them. But the problem is that these wolves are socialized and people bring them food to eat. So they’re not hunters in the wild and don’t know how to hunt in the wild. They were completely at risk. So when they were able to return them to the center, they put tons more fencing on, to keep it from happening again.

My blog was messy so starting over. :)

Back to working on A SEAL Wolf for Sale

I'm sending the chapter by chapter to Loretta to read. Is that fair, or what?
But it helps me to see if I'm going in the right direction.

Getting closer to the end. Only 18,000 words to go!

Have a super TGIF!
