Bears, Bears, and Books, Oh My! :)

burgundy bear (640x547)
This is one of my bears that just sold to a fan, but I’ll have to change her paws so she has embroidered names on them instead. She’s a mauve mohair bear and she is going to another planet. Or, at least the buyer is making her a contest win for a fan, and the bear will represent the hero and heroine in her scifi romance. Cool, eh?
Wilde & Woolly Bears
MacNeill Bear (636x640)
This one is a brand new bear I just made up for a MacNeill Clan order.
So I had 11 orders, down to 10, up to 12, and more coming in. LOL
I have been writing on Call of the Cougar, slow going because I’m revising and when I do that, it means taking out (hate having to do that) and adding in (loving doing that), and started working on A Silver Wolf Christmas. Now you might think I should just finish one project and then get on with the next. But A Silver Wolf Christmas is due Nov 1, so I need to get to writing it.
And I just unpacked, but have to repack again.
Note to self: Do NOT overbook on conferences next year.
I have to keep reminding myself of this. Because I keep getting invited to go to a million different ones, and I can’t say the magic word: No.
But I’m really trying hard to.
And, I’m still trying to come up with a 3 book pitch. I have one for Jaguar Jingle Bells ( working title). But need another Silver wolf book, and another SEAL wolf book. So not sure on those.
And that’s it. Oh, except for the humongous blog tour for A Hero of a Highland Wolf!
I’m at Stomp Vs Romp, and I’m on Team Romp–of course, and I’ll be at the FB party all day, and I’ll be at Casablanca Authors, need to prepost for that day, and I’ll be at conference, and the book will be out that day–August 5th!

Sun and Shadows in San Antonio--the Alamo & It's Nearly Time to Party!!!

RWA 2014,, San Antonio 034 (640x427)
The sun peeking through the wrought iron fences of one of the arches at the Alamo.
Shadows and Ivy (640x427)
I took a picture of the ivy trailing down the wall, but what I found fascinating when I looked at the picture later was the iron decoration, the beam, and the ivy's shadows.
RWA 2014,, San Antonio 018 (640x427)
A ray of sunlight on the flowers that made it look like they were ready to beam up, aye, Scottie?
trellis with vines (640x427)
The lovely vine covered trellis, and the interesting patterns of live oak shadows across the grass.
Squirrel Alamo (639x640)
Two spots of sun next to the squirrel who decided to turn just as I snapped the shot! He looks a bit contorted, doesn't he?
Texas bench (640x427)
And the slats of the Texas bench.
Okay, back to work, no more goofing off!

Pink Carriage Rides for Romantic Authors with Sourcebooks

Horse behind us (427x640)
This was the horse behind us.
magical ride (640x519) (2)
At our destination.
Dinner and riverwalk 008 (640x427)spice
And before the ride.
After a lovely meal, we were able to ride in the pink lighted carriages. The horse behind us, pictured, was not pink, but the lights turned him that way.

Talk about a bunch of romance authors having the royal princess treatment! Sourcebooks was great!

And we had a great time!

But the fun is over and it's back to a billion deadlines before the NEXT conference, which is rapidly approaching.

And so is the release of Hero of a Highland Wolf!! Had this lovely review when I got home and started going through my emails!

Hero Of A Highland Wolf is the 14th book in the series, and I swear this is one of my favorites so far. I just adored every aspect of the story and I couldn't put this one down once I started into it. We see some old characters from past books, which was fun and hilarious and made the story seem even more enjoyable...the icing of the cake!!

The characters in the story were lively and engaging. Grant...is your alpha wolf. Commanding, jealous, possessive and way too over protective, and with a hidden passion that will make you weak in the knees. The male who has had his share of women, and never thought of settling down....but Ian proves him wrong. There is such a male commadarie in the story and we see more of their friendship in this story. Colleen is best friends with Julia....a secret they have kept from the men until now. So they have some aces up their sleeves and know how to pull a wringer on their mates...Collen was such a fun and feisty heroine. She fights for what she believes, is passionate, and independent, but accepts love when she sees it.

Overall a wonderful display of wolf shifter romance, with some historical Scottish culture in a modern day setting, a sexy highlander wolf in a kilt (WOWZERS). a one of a kind heroine, sword fighting, pirate playacting, and some amusing scenes to keep you laughing for days!!! A engrossing story to steal your heart!! EXCELLENT!! Renee B. Addicted to Romance

Carolyn Brown, Sharon Sala, and Terry Spear at #RWA14

I asked if Carolyn would wear her red cowboy boots and she did for our breakfast excursion! She is the sweetest!

And then we had even more of a treat! Sharon Sala sat with us and she shared some wonderful tales that were absolutely fascinating.

Carolyn's husband, Charles, who was our photographer, and I always love talking to him about everything--this time about cameras. :)
Had a really lovely time, ladies, and thanks so much to Carolyn and Charles for buying us breakfast! :)

Okay, off to visit some more with whoever I can visit with! Hope you all are having a lovely Wednesday! :)

Reviews:

5 Stars!!

I became hooked on shifter romances years ago and one of the people I blame for this addiction is author Terry Spear. Yes, that’s right, when I began to read Terry Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series, I was hooked. Why? Because Spear creates a fabulous, believable shifter world.

No, I didn’t start looking at my neighbors too closely (though I did wonder about that coyote/wolf that began wandering around). Seriously, though, Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series combines believable protagonists that are shifters whom I’d love to have move in next door. (Yes, quite a few hunky alphas in this group.)

In addition, Spear is a writer who makes every detail clear for her readers. We can see this Heart of the Wolf world take form in front of us with each page we turn. Each of the books include not only charismatic protagonists, but also exciting stories that keep the reader turning page after page.

This spring, I reread the entire series and enjoyed it even more as the details that thread each story and link each book to one another were so clear and well-integrated. The stories may be set in the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, Maine, or Scotland, but there are themes and characters that remain consistently as touchstones for her readers. FabFantasyFiction

Romantic Times, 4 Star! HOT

When it comes to paranormal romance, readers can always depend on Spear to deliver. This 14th entry in the acclaimed Heart of the Wolf series will not lee down those rabid fans of the hairy guys who howl at the moon. Hero of a Highland Wolf is guaranteed to excite, tantalize and stimulate all of your senses. And there’s kilts! Jaime A. Geraldi

4.5!!!

Ah, those Highland wolves should just RUN when American woman arrive on their doorsteps. They really stand no chance of keeping their hearts to themselves! This is #14 in Ms. Spear's Heart of the Wolf Series. It's a stand alone, although you'll probably want to read the others, because, really...SHIFTERS! Hot Highland SHIFTERS!
Colleen arrives at the castle that she's inherited. She's been forewarned by her best friend that the manager, Grant, of the property is going to try and scare her off. Not that a whole bunch of Highland warriors, wearing kilts and swinging broadswords, would cause her to scarper off. Nope, she's tickled at all the shirtless and oiled men that fill her courtyard.
She is surprised that the men are all shifters. Her father, a jackass if there ever was one, had griped that they were all human.
Once again there are some steamy times as these two work to find their way together. There's a party, with a pirate theme, that had me giggling.
Yep, the Highland wolves should just roll over and show their soft underbellies when the American women come to them. I will definitely be reading more from Terry Spear. Good then she's so prolific!

Fresh Fiction!

I believe that any reader who wants to enjoy an action packed, sizzling romance will enjoy HERO OF A HIGHLAND WOLF ... the shifter aspect isn't overblown, in fact until they shifted to fight at one point    I had forgotten it was a paranormal. It is a fantastic love story plain and simple and one I plan to put in my keeper shelf. by: Annetta Sweetko

The Highlanders Bundle!!! 1st Two Books for One Price of $3.99!!!

HighlandersBundle 500x750
From USA Today Bestselling Author, Terry Spear, comes the long-awaited bundle of her popular two-book Highlander romance series—Winning the Highlander’s Heart and The Accidental Highland Here.
WINNING THE HIGHLANDER’S HEART
Lady Anice vows to flee the amorous advances of King Henry I and return to her home in the Highlands where she hopes to find a laird to wed. She soon discovers her staff has vanished. Premonitions of imminent danger warn her of foul play, and she is certain she is cursed when it comes to marriage.
The king orders the Highlander Laird Malcolm MacNeill, who is seeking an English bride, to provide the lass safe escort and learn what has become of her staff. Escorting her home safely proves a dangerous trial in and of itself and Malcolm has difficulty keeping his heart out of the matter. When the king wishes Lady Anice be wed to one of his loyal barons, the issue is further complicated. Losing his heart to the lass means Malcolm could very well lose his head.
THE ACCIDENTAL HIGHLAND HERO
Lady Eilis Dunbarton’s life undergoes a drastic change with the death of her cousin, Agnes. Now she’s faced with the disagreeable prospect of marrying the man who was to be her cousin’s husband. Not by a change of contract, though. Instead, by deceit—pretending to be her cousin. But if her husband-to-be discovers she’s not really Agnes, her life is forfeit. So what choice does Eilis have but to flee?
When Laird James MacNeill’s clan rescues a half-drowned lass from the sea, there is speculation she is of the enemy clan, especially since she doesn’t remember her own name. James is immediately enticed with the lady, but his focus must remain on finding the proper bride. For if he does not wed soon, he must give up his holdings to one of his younger brothers. Focus slips away with each day Eilis is close, and James finds himself contemplating the thought of taking her to wife without knowing her true identity.
But how dangerous would the end result be? And what will happen if Eilis’s husband-to-be comes looking for her only to find her in the arms of another man?

Dragonflies in Flight & the Dinner Out–the New Art of Conversation

2 dragonflies in flight dragonfly in flight (4)dragonfly in flight
When I water, the dragonflies come buzzing around. But even when I don’t, they do. They must be really smart, unlike birds, and know that when I’m out, I might just be getting ready to water. The birds can’t figure out that if I’m out there, I might be bringing them food or water. Maybe that’s where they come up with the term bird brain? It is hard, well, for me, to catch a dragonfly in flight. They fly very fast, but I had fun capturing these images!
sunflower stretching out2 (640x338)
I took some more pictures of the sunflowers. I love them. They remind me of my dad who had planted them so many years ago and once they are gone, I won’t see them for another year. I particularly loved this one, stretching out.

And a picture is worth a million words, don’t you think?

And yes, while this was going on…I took the picture. :)
Okay, I’m back to writing. I only reached 11,000. I was working on setting up a Facebook party for next week for Her Highland Hero Release with some other Highland romance authors. After that, I’ll be doing a Hero of a Highland Wolf one, so stay tuned! And I contracted a narrator who is actually Scottish to do the narration for Her Highland Hero, so excited about that. :)

In the Dead of the Night is in Print! And on Google Play Now!

Take a hot guy and an interested woman and a stormy sea and you've got a romantic suspense, right?

The home where the story takes place was my last home and so it was fun setting it there in the hot Texas location, cornfields in front of us, houses on either side, cows in the field next to me, darkness all around.

They stay at a safe house on Grand Cayman Island, and I had visited there, and the sand was just as I described it.

The next safe house is at Keene, New Hampshire. It's the same FBI safe house that the folks from Bound by Danger stayed at.

Army officer Deidre Roux has hidden her psychic abilities until now. But ominous visions plague her and between the martial arts tactics her twin brother taught her and the hand-to-hand combat she learned in the Army—she’s realizing just how important these skills are for her well-being.
When a reporter moves in next door, she’s not sure just what to think. Dave Carter owns a gun—it is Texas—and comes to her rescue when her brother suddenly drops into her life again. From there it’s the normal stuff that women and men tend to do when they’re getting to know each other—boating, swimming, dancing—except for one thing…she’s trying to keep her secret under wraps at all costs, which is difficult to do when she’s under surveillance by the FBI, and people keep wanting her dead.
Could a reporter, who’s not really a reporter, prove he might just have what it takes to keep her safe–for the long run?

That was my in-laws vacation house, and I enjoyed going there and doing all that she got to do.

And the military part--I was stationed at Fort Hood.

But when I was at all those locations, well except for her first home, I never thought of writing a romantic suspense for any of those places. Who would ever have thought? :)

Though I did write that story while I lived in "her" house. I could envision it all happened, right there. :)

And now it's in print!

In the Dead of the Night

Allan Thompson works for a special agency that takes down terrorists, but when he’s given the mission to protect one of Thurstan Wilson’s mistresses, he knows something isn’t right. Jenny Brant doesn’t have much time before she’s history and she has a plan, but what happens next turns her whole world inside out.

Allan Thompson arrives in Waco, Texas for a mission of utmost importance–protect a terrorist’s mistress from being the next victim on his hit list. But when the mission goes down wrong, Jenny Brant is nearly killed and Allan begins a new mission–protect her at all costs–as her faux husband until she can regain her memories.

Everything about the mission seems wrong–all starting with one Jenny Brant who doesn’t fit the profile of the kind of woman Wilson usually hooks up with. Allan and his team must protect her, but at what cost to his own sanity or his heart?

Jenny Brant begins to regain her memories, but when she learns she has a huge inheritance that Wilson wants by marrying her, and the agent Allan Thompson will marry her instead to secret her money away with the Agency’s protection, she still can’t remember why she would have been a killer’s main squeeze. When Wilson’s thugs try to return her to him, she becomes less sure of who the good guys are and who she truly is.

The only thing she knows for certain–if someone doesn’t take down Wilson, her life is forfeit.

Speaking of danger, I am now working on Call of the Cougar!

This is the sequel to Cougar's Mate!
They're going to have a time of it!
:)

But that's the way you like it, right???

Okay, off to write before any more of the day slips away! And it's time to open up the blinds to let in some blue light. :)

Have a super Tuesday!

“Full of heart-stopping action, sexy good guys, and strong women!”

Her Highland Hero

There are certain components in HER HIGHLAND HERO that are staples of just about any book by Terry Spear — the good guys are sweet, sexy and can handle a sword; the heroine is no pushover; and the action adds interest and is exciting but it never overbalances the romance. I also love that Isobel and Marcus discuss the dangers they face and make decisions together. There are some things that Isobel is physically unable to do because she was never trained as a warrior, but neither is she immature or a hindrance on the journey to Marcus’s castle. He admires her determination and heartiness and doesn’t talk down to her or patronize her.
Along with the sizzling romance, HER HIGHLAND HERO is full of treachery, conspiracies, and tons of bad guys to choose from. It’s fun trying to guess who the masterminds are and how the puzzle pieces fit into place. It’s nice seeing familiar faces from past books acting as helpers in Marcus and Isobel’s journey. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for familiar characters like Gunnolf and new characters like Sir Travon, and the mysterious Dwyer.
HER HIGHLAND HERO is exactly the kind of highlander book fans have come to expect from Terry Spear — full of heart- stopping action, sexy good guys, and strong women. I look forward to reading more books in this series!

I set His Wild Highland Lass aside to read later and revise some more. It really is good to let a story go for a while. It’s not due out until Feb. So I have time on it.
So I was tossing ideas around in my head of how to start The Viking’s Highland Lass and Call of the Cougar. One of my beta readers said I probably wouldn’t want to release another Highland novel that soon, so work on Call of the Cougar. In actuality, I will have to stop whatever project I get stared on in a couple of weeks to go to a conference, come home for a week, and off to another conference, at which time I will have to work solely on A Silver Wolf Christmas for a November deadline. So no matter what I work on now, it’s not going to be finished right away. Wrote 2500 of Call of the Cougar yesterday, and will be working more on it today. But if I get stuck, I’ll go back to Viking. :)

I saw a note from someone on a loop who asked, “Is releasing a book in August bad for sales?”
Actually, anytime in summer can be bad because families are vacationing and busy doing other stuff. On the other hand, when I wasn’t juggling little ones, I loved to read on a plane. Or when I was at a cabin or hotel at night, read a book.
The same can be said of August or September. Kids are going back to school, money is tight for buying school supplies, new clothes for the kids, and if you have teen books coming out then, kids are too busy with their studies to read. Although I have just as many adult readers for my teen books. Or…releases are bad in November or December because of the holidays and everyone is buying gifts. Hmmm, books maybe??? I always get books for my kids and kids-in-laws. They ask for them! Then I’ve heard January is the worst for sales because no one has any money. And yet, everyone has new ereaders and gift certificates!  And I’ve heard that sales can be really good. :)
What do I do? When the book is ready, I publish it. Whether it sells a lot this month or next month, or three months from now is irrelevant. I’m working on the next book. And when that one comes out, maybe IT will hit the right month. The point is we never really know. And we’re in this for the long term. So if you’re reading my books and are looking forward to the next one, don’t worry about me releasing in only certain months to optimize sales! :)
When it’s done, it’s yours.
It’s kind of like submitting to an agent. EVERYONE said, don’t submit during a holiday. No agent will read your work. I found submitting during the holidays, not right on Thanksgiving or Christmas, but the weeks before were great times to submit. You know why? No one else was because EVERYONE said… yep. So everyone else didn’t submit. And mine were seen to right away. :)
But every book is special. Every release is special. It might not be well loved this month, or it might even take a year for readers to finally take notice. :) We just have to write the next book. Don’t you agree?

Oh, and after showing off my Patriotic Patrick on Facebook, I had one order for him, and one for another bear! He is cute, isn’t he? He was featured in Teddy Bear Review Magazine some years back.
I had a question: Do I make the bear too? Not just the clothes?
Yes.
Here is a naked bear that I also made and naked bunnies too!
