Can It Get Any Crazier?

I shouldn't ask myself that. Really! Because, YES! It can.

I'm in the middle of 1st edits on A SEAL Wolf Christmas, that are due in a few days.

Then I received  the final read through for another book. And I'm thinking it's Jaguar Fever. Because I know it's coming back to me soon. But it wasn't. It was A Highland Werewolf Wedding. I thought I was already done with that one!!! Then, I'm working on Silence of the Wolf. I finished writing the 1st draft, but need to go back through that one before I turn it in. But as soon as I do that, they'll need marketing materials, and that means writing the long synopsis and giving the tag line, short blurb, and coming up with a neat idea for the book cover. This one is due out Feb 2015.

And that's the glory of having 4 books out this year!!! My editors are behind on their reads, so it makes for a crash course for me.

And, the first release is out next week--woohoo!!!! Which makes it all worthwhile!!!! And fans. I love my fans!!! Who want the next book and the next, and the next.

But can it get any crazier? It sure can, as soon as I get Jaguar Fever edits!!! And the request for the synopsis on Silence of the Wolf....

I need a break. Maybe to an island paradise, with a Highland wolf, like Duncan. :)

Day 8--Countdown to Howl!!

First off, thanks to everyone who understands that I'm in deadline hell...*sigh*...and is bearing with me. I'm at Urban Girl Reader today, link below! :)

I have to say that having more things going on helps me to concentrate, go figure. Do you have to have only one thing to do to be able to concentrate?

I don't have any of those acronyms...ADD or anything, but I just find that if I have several ongoing projects, when I get stumped, sometimes working on something else helps. When I don't have anything to do and I'm trying to come up with something--that's when I feel...discombobulated.

So are you a one project at a time kind of person? Or are you a multi-tasker extraordinaire?

Day 6 Countdown to Howl!

Even though I have this blog hop going on for a specified number of days, once it's over, I still have a few guest blogs in Feb. My publicist was trying something new by having the blog hop before the release date, and I think it's been fun. Instead of giving away copies of the new book, my publisher is giving away 3 copies of earlier books. Since this is the tenth book out in the series, there are a lot of earlier books to give away!

Hopefully the roofers will come and finish the job today. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain.

I'm still looking for a new faucet set to replace the one I have. The plumber said the minerals in the water ate the internal parts of the hot water handle all up. What does that say about drinking the water???

Hmm, I'd heard carbonated drinks were hard on you. My dad always said water would rust the pipes--drink beer. His father made beer--his grandparents were from Germany. During prohibition, his dad made bathtub beer! He received a Model T Ford and a piano as payment at different times!!!!

Talk about someone wanting beer badly!!!

After prohibition, one of his cousins would come home for lunch and have beer with his lunch, then go back to kindergarten. And sleep during the afternoon. :) The teacher sent a note home with him to not allow the boy to drink beer on lunch break. :)

Back to edits!!!

Deep in Edits

The fun part of writing a book is the initial finishing it to the end. Then there are the myriad edits. The final line edits are the best. But right now I'm in the first revision process on A SEAL Wolf Christmas and that takes the most work. I'm only done with the first two chapters. I have 23 chapters to go! I'm also back to waking up at the awful hour of 4. So I'm going back to bed in a little bit for a couple of hours.

Have you ever had that happen? Where you begin to have a bizarre wake up time and have a devil of a time breaking it? What did you do? (Snuggling with a wolf doesn't count!)

So I'm going to be in my cave for a while once I sleep a little!!!

The blog continues next week and most of these are still accepting comments.

Weekend Break from Tour Means Edits!

I turned in my last guest blog! And the closer we get to the end of the tour, the closer we get to the release date! :)

This has been a fun tour. Hope everyone is enjoying it!

Got a couple of notices about conferences coming up--one in Dallas and one in Shreveport. I've been to both before. Except for going to a book signing, they really didn't have much to offer right now. So I'm going to stay home and write. :)

Day 5, Countdown to Howl

Okay, here is the River Elf. Isn't he cute in a blue elf sort of way? In Shadow Elf, the blue river elves are trouble. They still are, but what happens when you get a River Elf who's part High Elf? That means he's a magic user. And lots more trouble!

I'm waiting on edits for Jaguar Fever again (well, not really waiting, I'm writing), but that's the problem with turning them in, they keep coming back! :) Actually, it's just the multi-tiered editing process I have to go through on all the books. This time, it should be realllly, realllly minor stuff, and then I'll have one more final read through. :)

I just received edits for A SEAL Wolf Christmas, so I'll be back to my wolf's cave and work on those. Roofers are supposed to come this morning. :)

Couldn't sleep during the middle of the night. I think it's because it's the full moon. I was walking through the house without turning any of the lights on, bright as day outside. Looked out and sure enough, not a cloud in the sky and the moon is bright and full, lighting the whole night sky like a giant lightbulb.

Hope you all snag a wolf for the weekend!!!

Day 4, Countdown to Howl

One of the things I had to do when playing around with the audiobooks is change out the cover. It's got to be square. The cover for a book has to be rectangular. So I tried to do it the easy way--there isn't. You just have to start from scratch. So I did.

Next on the agenda, I wanted to change out a cover that felt too old for the YA.

Here is the original.

Cover for 'Courtly Masquerade'
Then  my daughter said I needed a masked girl. Well, this was as close as I could come. But she was too old for a YA. And then I found this one...

What do you think? Better???

Tomorrow I'll share with you the picture for the River Elf for the Shadow Elf series. :)

Day 3, Countdown to Howl!

Okay, I'm still approving chapters for Kiss of the Vampire--By the weekend, half the book will be ready for audio. I've had more trouble with downloads for The Dark Fae. So working on that next download, which takes FOREVER! And I found a GREAT cover from Cora Graphics for the River Elf, which will be in the same series as the Shadow Elf. I know, I know....I need to finish a story! But Jaguar Fever edits are coming back for edit approval, and then I will have just a final read through. And SEAL Christmas 1st edits are coming. As soon as I get my copy of the cover from Cora, I'll share. :)

And I'm nearly to 17,000 on Taming a Wild Highlander. So...I'm REALLY not goofing off! :)

Have no idea how much the plumbing's going to cost, but afraid, plenty. More on that later...

Make a trip to Grand Cayman Island where you will snorkel with the sting rays, cruise with swashbuckling pirates, and swim with the wolves. :)
B&N

I'm at:
Vampire Romance Books!
for a giveaway.

Review of A Howl for a Highlander from Romance Review Books--
Terry Spear does it yet again. Howl for a Highlander brings us the story of Duncan MacNeill, one of the hunky Highland wolf quadruplets we met in Heart of a Highland Wolf. Duncan has left his homeland for Grand Cayman Island and is hunting down the thief that stole his family’s fortune. With a single plan on his mind he has no desire to play tourist while on the island. Little did he know his plans would be sidetracked by the sexy little she wolf Shelley Campbell as soon as he departed the plane. Sensing a female wolf all alone, well, what could any self respecting male do but make sure she was protected and entertained. Tracking down the thief and protecting Shelley from an over amorous wolf doesn’t keep the two of them from finding a little time to enjoy the beautiful island.
As with every Terry Spear novel, her descriptive writing draws you into the story and you’ll feel like you’re on the island right along with Duncan and Shelley. With just the right amount of romance, humour, and suspense Howl for a Highlander showcases everything we’ve come to love of Terry Spear. Each and every character comes with a story all their own and make their way into the hearts of the readers, not to be forgotten. Terry Spear has a seamless way of bringing characters together whether they run the forests in America or the ageless castles in Scotland, you never know who’s going to show up in a future book.
If you aren’t already a fan of Terry’s, Howl for a Highlander will win you over and have you running to read about the rest of her wolves. From Highlanders, SEALs, and everything in between, no one writes sexy alpha wolves like Terry Spear.

Bound by Danger Now Available!

Deidre Roux is an Army officer with a secret. She can’t let anyone know she’s got second sight. The military would frown on such a thing and that could be the end of her career. But visions of ominous troubles to come plague her and she’s fortunate her twin brother taught her lots of martial arts tactics.

When a reporter moves in next door, she's not sure just want to think. Dave Carter owns a gun--it is Texas--and comes to her rescue when her brother suddenly drops into her life again. From there it's the normal stuff that women and men tend to do when they're getting to know each other--boating, swimming, dancing--except for one thing...she’s trying to keep her secret under wraps at all costs, which is difficult to do when she's under surveillance by the FBI, and people keep wanting her dead.

Could a reporter, who's not really a reporter, prove he might just have what it takes to keep her safe--for the long run?

B & N

So what's next? I need to reread Silence of the Wolf again. I like to let a story sit and work on something else, so I can go back and make sure that it's okay. I might wait until next week to read it again. It's like having a fresh perspective. And I can catch things I wouldn't have otherwise.

I worked a little on Taming the Wild Highlander last night...not very far on that way--11,000. But I wanted to upload it for critique partners to look over and see if I'm headed in the right direction.

I was lost last night. In a dream. I hate being lost! Left my car in one area because I couldn't find my new house. I think it was because they kept spiriting poor Deidre to new safe houses in Bound by Danger. :) It was disorienting. I had to wake myself from it to get un-lost this morning. I had ended up in a mall and one end was really ritzy (in the story they end up at a really ritzy hotel, shopping), and at the other, gang type groups had taken over. I had my camera, and something else of value, can't recall what now, and I kept thinking they might try to steal it. :) So I headed back to the ritzy section and saw little girls in dresses "ice skating" without skates in a roped off area in the mall, having the time of their lives. Hmmm.....

In the story, there were several things that are true--I was in that boating accident, only didn't end up in the water with the drunk. But the rest of it was true. The calls I got while I was at Fort Hood, the training I had to go through, and the mystery behind the whole story, all true. Well, the mystery was changed a bit, but the gist of the reason behind the mystery really had happened to a guy I worked with.

It's fun being able to incorporate truth with fiction. Sometimes the truth seems more unreal than the fiction.

I'm off to write!

Hope you have a lovely Saturday!!!

Octopus & Eel & Wolf

My daughter-in-law was about to be tentacled so I had to take a shot of her sitting next to a big octopus with all those cool tentacle suckers reaching out to her.

And the bottom is an eel, which can be bad news.

It's best if you're swimming with stuff like this in the ocean to give them a wide berth!

Stick to wolves. :)  Like this one! :) He will make your nights and days even more of a paradise! And hotter!!! So bring plenty of sunscreen, and get lots of rest. You're going to need it!

I should be approving the Ch 1 of Kiss of the Vampire audition soon. Ch 2 and 3 coming. Edited mss on Jaguar Fever is back with my editor. Waiting on A SEAL Wolf Christmas first edits, and in the meantime, editing Bound by Danger some more!

Have a lovely Thursday!!

Auditions Accepted!

I've hired narrators to bring the these two stories to life!

Kiss of the Vampire
And I have another who is reading Highland Rake and she'll be auditioning for that book also.

But in the meantime, I'm back to Jaguar Fever. Last 100 pages to read over. And it should be done. Deadline's Friday, but if I can have it finished before then, I'll turn it in.

Then I'm waiting on A SEAL Wolf Christmas edits.

Yesterday when I went into town, it was icy. The trees were dripping with ice, but the roads were melted, thankfully. This morning, the water on my driveway is frozen solid.

Anyone see Les Miserables? I'll be going on Sunday, treat for getting Jaguar Fever edits done.

I may be signing up for a police course also. This is a bad time of year for it with the weather so unpredictable, but I'll let you know more about it later if I do it...

Have a super great Hump Day!

Did I tell you Lion Mane is in Jaguar Fever? You know, Blondie? BMG--the blond muddy guy?

Okay, off to do edits.... :)

An Excerpt on Bound by Danger

I wrote Deidre's Secret when she was a teen, but I fell in love with her quirky character and wanted to know how she turned out as she grew up. Well, she became an Army officer, still has her martial arts training--compliments of her twin brother, Charlie, and she's not real happy with her assignment at Fort Hood, TX.  It's kind of hard to meet guys with any stick-to-it-ness because she's still got a secret that she needs to keep.

But when a reporter moves in next door, she's not sure just want to think. Dave Carter owns a gun--it is Texas--and comes to her rescue when her brother suddenly drops into her life again. And from there it's the normal stuff that women and men tend to do when they're getting to know each other--boating, swimming, dancing at nightclubs--except for one thing...she has a secret that she tries to keep under wraps at all costs. And he has one too!

Which is difficult to do when she's under surveillance by the FBI, and people keep wanting her dead. Could a reporter, who's not really a reporter, prove he might just have what it takes to keep her safe--for the long run?

And this is the story of Deidre's life:
Excerpt from Bound by Danger:

Dave jerked the man’s jacket aside and smiled. He pulled a phone from his shirt pocket, then punched in the numbers on the killer’s cell phone for the driver of Charlie’s car. “It’s me. How’s it going with you?”
“Hey, Boss, we’ve got everyone from the other vehicle. Who all are we missing?”
“We’re gathering the crew this side of the washout. We’re waiting on Johnson. You head back an alternate route. We’ll meet in Orlando.”
“Charlie wants to talk to you.”
Before Dave could say a word, Charlie broke in, “I want to speak to Deidre.”
“Sure, Charlie.”
Deidre cleared her throat. “Are you all right?” She took a deep breath.
“Yeah, well they didn’t want you out looking for me and getting myself killed,” Charlie said, sounding irritated that he couldn’t have searched for her. “But I’m fine.”
Dave touched her shoulder, intent on getting them on their way.
She nodded to him. “I need another good bath, Charlie. We’ll see you in Orlando soon. No Disney World for me. You can take Marilyn with you. Bye.”
Bill hollered to them from down the road, “Got a car, just need his keys, and we’re good to go!”
Dave took the phone. “We’ve got a car. As soon as we round up Johnson, we’ll be out of here. See you in Orlando.” He clipped the phone to his belt. “Let’s get Ricky into the car. We’ll throw the other guy in the trunk.”
“Hey!” Johnson hollered.
Dave shook his head to see Johnson carrying the skin of the alligator over his back.
“Aren’t they on the endangered list?” Deidre asked.
“Not when they’re biting!”
Dave turned to Deidre. “Guy’s a hunter—big game, little game, you name it.” He waved at Johnson. “Okay, help me get this guy in the trunk.”
Johnson stared at the dead man. “Damn, who shot him dead? Aren’t we supposed to keep them alive for questioning?”

Turning the Dark Fae into an Audiobook

I'm working on making The Dark Fae into an audiobook. I've offered a contract to a narrator, and if she accepts, we'll get started! This is a fun new endeavor and I can't wait to see how it goes!

Have you been pronouncing the names correctly in your head as you read the story? That's the fun part. I had to make up a pronunciation list for all the names. Hmm, how do I tell someone how to say this name? Let's see...King Tibero. Ti-beer-oh   Or is it Tie-ber-oh  Or is it Teh-bear-oh Or...

Only time will tell. :)
                                                                     ***
Alicia's always known she's different--that she can recognize the mischievous fae when they show up to "play" with the humans. Only now she's faced with one highly annoyed dark fae and she's certain he knows the truth about her. She can see him, which means her life is forfeit.

Add to that, his sister arrives, who wants to play, too. And their mother, the queen of the Denkar, will want Alicia's head, once she learns what Alicia can do.

And all because Alicia was attempting to rescue her friend, Cassie, on their beach excursion at South Padre Island, from the wicked fae. Now, Alicia has really gone and done it--and she's thinking she should have let the fae have his fun. Her friend's broken heart would be a lot easier to deal with, than Alicia losing her life.

But it is too late for regrets. As soon as she threw the soda at the dark fae's chest, she had declared war on the fae. And he is happy to take up the challenge.

Do I have trouble with keeping my names straight? Absolutely!!!

So how are you starting off YOUR week?

Storms Roaring Around the Area Again

No rain, but lightning, thunder, wind shook me out of bed at 4 A.M. So what's a body to do but get back to work on books?

I've been doing some more research on Scotland and think I need to go back there just to do more hands-on research. :) You know, for Taming a Wild Highlander.

Where would you go if you could just pack your bags and get away from all of it for a week or two?

No rush. But just a leisurely vacation???

When the Internet Goes Down...

I know I've got all kinds of neat things I'm missing while I'm off the Internet due to storms, but does that stop me from keeping busy?

Aside from trying to get my Internet started intermittently, no....

I finished Silence of the Wolf, although I'm going to read it over again after I've given it a rest. But what a delightful early Valentine's gift! A SEAL Wolf Christmas cover!!! Love it!

You will get to see tons of the old home team from the Oregon Coast and Leidolf's red wolf pack in Portland. Even zoo man Thompson gets involved, again.

This is the first Christmas story I've written, and since I always write some suspense, humor, romance, and a lot of wolf, it will have all the usual. This, like To Tempt the Wolf, I couldn't quit writing when I began it. It's just one of those books that practically wrote itself--characters will do that sometimes. They get away from me. They actually start out in the jungle on a SEAL-type mission, where you get to see what happens when Bjornolf and Anna are working on the same team...sort of. And then it's a new mission--of a Christmas nature. Only she doesn't buy into the whole Christmas Fa-La-La-La-La-La, La-La-La-La. Not only that, but Bjornolf and she have been assigned the job of ensuring a runaway teen doesn't run off again. And that's only the beginning!

I have a ton of edits coming up for two books due out this year, so rather than start Jaguar 3, I started writing Taming the Wild Highlander. While I was working on the title, I stuck an "e" on Wild. Just habit. LOL

Anyway, this will be the sequel to Highland Rake. This is Angus's story, and Edana also has a secret, just like Alana. Different one though. If you had fun with Dougald's story in Highland Rake, hope you enjoy the new one coming up--Taming the Wild Highlander...

Have a super Saturday! It's good to be back!

Pitches and Auditions

Kiss of the Vampire

I had an actress offer to do The World of Fae series books in audio, but I have another who is actually reading the first of the books, and another that I'm waiting on for an audition. So I thought it would be fun to put Kiss of the Vampire in audiobook form also. Just waiting to hear back on the audition for that one now!

I so agree that when our books are turned into audio, the voices may not always appeal to all listeners. Just like an author's voice might not appeal to all readers.  I read a blog by one reader who thought the historical heroes were way too harsh on the audiobooks for a series she loved, until the publisher got a new narrator for subsequent books and read the hero's version in such a different way. Some books I've fallen in love with the reader's voices. In one series, it was a woman who read with an Irish accent. Lovely voice. Could listen to it all day. I was sad when I finished the series.

In another, a male narrated a western contemporary romance. Even for the males in the story, he sounded too old and gruff. For the women, awful. LOL It pulled me out of the story.

In another though, the guy is a dream, and he is loved by all! Phil, G, bestill my heart. :)

In another, a YA, the narrator was middle aged and I had to look at the cover, to ensure I was reading a teen book.

So we take a chance when we bring our books to life on audio that we might not get the right voice for the project. But with that, it's similar to an author's voice, not everyone will agree.

****

I also pitched three stories to my editor. I never know if they'll be bought, so it's now out of my hands. And no telling when I'll hear back. Although, I'll let you all know when I do!

And, I finished writing Silence of the Wolf, which is to say that it's written to the end, but I'm rereading it all through again to make sure changes I made were carried throughout the book. :) That's my goal today.

I also finished another guest blog, and have one interview and one more guest blog to do. Only a week and a half, and the fun begins!

So I'm going to try to do the one other guest blog, don't have the interview questions yet or it would be done. And I added another guest blog--The Mating Game, which I finished.

See, you thought I was goofing off!

NEVER!

Have you loved some audiobooks and not others???

The Sound of Words!

I love listening to audiobooks, and so I'm excited to be listening to auditions for The Dark Fae!! And hope to have audiobooks of the whole series done by the end of the year. :) One of the actors did a wonderful job on reading for The Hunger Games. So really excited about this new "book" format to have available to fans!!!

Also, I was playing around with a new cover for Deidre's Secret now that I have rights back to the book. I'm working on Tom's story, really!!! But sometimes I have to take a break.

Yeah, yeah, I can hear you now--but that's WAY too many breaks. :)

And today, it's been crazy. I think everyone is back from vacation, so I'm hearing from all kinds of sites for the New Year, and trying to get everything answered.

Hope your Monday is great after the holidays, and you're ready to get back to reading! :)

A fan asked about the sequel to the Blood Moon Series...I've got the sequel partly written!

And I'm REALLY late in getting this up.

Now, I'm going back in my hole where Tom is waiting for me. Chapter 27 needs a hot and sexy scene and then I have to start rereading the whole book over again. :) But this time, hopefully, it will be mostly just for enjoyment and not having to make any major changes!!!

Have a super great Monday!!!

Black Footed Desert Cat

Some creatures are meant to be together. They say men live longer when they have a mate. Women don't need one to live longer! Not sure what that says....

In other animal kingdoms, the animals don't get together unless they mate. Like the jaguars, or cheetahs. Lions have their prides. Wolves and coyotes, their packs. I even read where the king vulture takes a mate for life.

Many of the cats are loners. In a household, some cats love to be together. Others, not so much so.
Yet when I saw this black footed desert cat--totally wild, not a cute little ocelot looking cat--I thought she looked lonely. Doesn't she look like she needs a friend?

In Silence of the Wolf, there's a strong theme of family.

When divisions happen, no matter what the reason, there's a loss. Strength in numbers, in pack unity. Division, dissent, trouble otherwise.

Sometimes someone who is not so close to the situation can see the real truth much more than those who are dealing with it more emotionally.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. But what if it is broken? Then something has to change...

Got word count on Silence of the Wolf!!! Now I'm just finishing it up! :)

Fame, Fortune, Glamour...

A Highland Werewolf Wedding

Wolves don't want fame. They don't want to be in the spotlight. Yet, this Highland wolf pack ends up in a movie. Just to earn some extra cash and to show the real actors what real swordsmanship is all about in Heart of the Highland Wolf.

I teased in Heart of the Highland Wolf and in A Howl for a Highlander about Duncan MacNeill becoming famous, and Shelley teases him about having to escape all the women who will be climbing the walls of Argent Castle to get to the hunky Highland wolf.

You can imagine it, right?

Wouldn't you like to be one of them???

But what if YOU were famous? What if when you went anywhere--outside in your backyard to feed the squirrel in your PJs or out to the mailbox in slippers, or maybe that red dress you wore for the party was just a little too tight fitting...and pictures of all these incidents were all over the press--tabloids, twittered, You-tubed!

So now the question is wouldn't you rather not have the fame and just be any Jane Doe on the street who nobody notices?

So then some would say, sure, just give me the fortune. But most people who have huge fortunes are also kind of famous. Not all. Close to where I live as the crow flies...ten miles away, maybe, a huge Antebellum kind of home sits on tons of acreage. The owner is very, very wealthy. He invented cherry-pickers. The device that utility vehicles and tons of other businesses use to get their jobs done.

He's "famous" among the people he knows, but see him on the street? He's just another average Joe.

So I guess you could still manage to amass a fortune and nobody would know you.

One author once told us how she had gotten on a plane and the stewardesses moved her to first class. She was delighted. They were whispering and talking about her and finally one of them approached her and said, "You're nobody."

LOL

Well, she was kind of taken aback, of course. Because, she WAS somebody. She was a wife, daughter, and mother and an author. She just wasn't a famous somebody. :)

With that last note...Tom is chomping at the bit--not really, wolves don't chomp at bits...is waiting for me to get back to his story!!!

So have a terrifically wonderful Saturday!!!

And take heart if you're not famous. You can still feed the squirrels in your PJs and the world will NEVER know. :)

Dream Therapy

 Amazon
B&N

Have you ever had a dream that is so bizarre, you wonder what it means? Like...deadly fortunes something that is a warning of something to come...Or you think maybe you shouldn't have eaten that spicy pizza last night. Or watched a scary movie right before going to bed.

Maybe you've had a lot of stress over something or mentioned people that you hadn't talked about in a good long while, some of them long since dead, and here they are, prominently in your story dream.

Ever think the dream could turn into a really neat story? Make it so?

Scenes do come to me, but not in dreams. I visualize two people in action and dialogue, and I've got the beginning of a scene.

But dreams, that's something else. First off,  they usually are really bizarre. If I remember them...I had one this morning but can't remember, but yesterday's woke me up--

It was really weird. I was in a car with a cougar-standard poodle mix and I was stroking his fuzzy head, and he was purring as I waited for the circus people to come and get him with their tranquilizer-filled hypodermic needles. Did I mention how bizarre my dreams could be?

In the back seat was a cheetah, elegant, sleek, female, sitting up, growly, and not in the least bit friendly. Police pulled up at the same time and the circus guys tranqued the sweet cougar-poodle, that btw, looked only like a cougar. No curly hair.

And then I was awake.

So I analyze my dream to figure it out.

I'd been writing on Silence of the Wolf, and mentioned a poodle. I used to own standard poodles. And I had just mentioned a cougar in the story also. Cheetahs? I had seen a picture of one recently.

Circus? I had just watched an episode of Supernaturals about a killer clown from the circus.

Why would the cougar like me? Because most shapeshifter cats and wolves like me, except for the bad guys. They don't pay any attention to me until it's too late.

The Cheetah? Have no idea why she didn't like me. Maybe it was because I was giving all my attention to the loving cougar.

We often analyze days' events, past events, future events during our sleep, falling asleep, waking up periods, even when we don't realize we do. It helps us to deal with everything.

Have you ever woken up and realized how you needed to tackle a problem? I've done that. It's at the edge of my brain, and all of a sudden, the solution comes.

And I know it's because my brain was working it out when I was sleeping.

What of dreams that are reoccurring? Like falling off a cliff or some other dream that you might have on a regular basis? That could be a metaphor for some deeper feelings that you haven't been able to deal with.

As for cougar-poodles, no, you won't EVER find one in a story of mine. Probably not a cheetah either!

So if you have dreams, or remember those that you do, do you ever analyze them? Try to figure them out? Or just ignore them, figuring they're not worth the time?

Evolution of a Book

First, there's a pitch--

Following a wolf’s paw prints in the Rockies, Tom Silver is determined to find the three wolves who have been attacking local farmers’ livestock near the gray wolf pack’s Silver Town, Colorado, certain they are pack members since they have to be disguising their scent. A blizzard sidetracks him, and he settles into a cabin his brothers own in the Rockies when he hears a plane crash nearby. What he doesn’t expect to find is a sole survivor. And more incredulous? She’s a female werewolf/coyote shifter mix bound as a prisoner. He suspects officials will be swarming all over the place, searching for their missing prisoner as soon as the weather permits. And he can’t let them have her—not when she’s a shifter.

Fed up with the killing of coyotes where she lives in the Panhandle of Texas and the articles written about the travesty of red wolves breeding with coyotes and diluting their blood, Elizabeth Wildwood writes her own article for the Panhandle News, explaining how similar the wolves and coyotes are and how important it is for a red wolf, who is so much rarer, to find a mate of her own, even if the mate turns out to be a coyote. She immediately receives death threats over the article—who would have ever thought? She’s taken hostage, crashes in the Rockies, and is rescued by one hunk of a gray wolf during a blizzard. Can her bad luck with men finally be changing?

But then it changes somewhat...during the writing of the story...

She meets Tom first at the Silver Town Ski Resort...well, before that.

And that's how it goes...the pitch is correct...but it's only a small part of the story...the real story is so much bigger.

Then there's all the conflict--the characters', mine!!! Mine with the characters. Theirs with me. And the story conflicts, of course.

I usually have someone steal a scene that shouldn't. Characters will do that from time to time.

Sam and Silva do it twice. They reached their quota.

The teens from Destiny of the Wolf who got themselves in trouble end up in this one too--Minx, Cody, and Anthony.

Some new hunks are added to the story...who have recently joined the pack.

A couple of questions are answered in this book.

Which was first, the chicken or the egg? Loretta posed it. Donna answered it. The cocky rooster, I think she said.

To which I replied something to the effect, "How did we get to a discussion of roosters?"

And that's how my writing goes sometimes!!

It doesn't seem to make any sense, and yet in the end, hopefully, all the loose ends, including those that might not have seemed important, are. :)

My critique partner wrote, "You don't need to include the details of the vehicles out front. Unless one is the bad guy's car."

I knew that! When we write a detail, even if it's just one in passing, it should be important. Why? Because those are the clues we feed to readers all along. If they miss them, it's okay. Because we give more clues along the way. But it's great if we can give details that really count for something.

In mysteries, the ploy is red herrings. Something that seems like it's important, but isn't. But it's more fun to tie in all the little clues and make them important and see if anyone realizes they are too.

So I'm writing the final scenes in Silence of the Wolf, wrapping up all the details, hoping I don't miss any...or that during editor rewrites things don't get cut that causes a loose end that wasn't there...and another story will have evolved!

Then? It's on to the next one!!!

And that's great news for you! Right???

Have a super wonderful Thursday! I'm off to wrap up more loose ends...in Silence of the Wolf!
