Glorious Earth Day

I love having greenery that makes me feel as though I'm in a jungle protecting me from the hot rays of the sun in the Texas heat. I think of planting trees or plants for earth day, but there's so much more to it than that!

Recycling! Clean out your closets and cabinets and storage spaces and give these things to charities rather than throwing good stuff away! If you have books that you don't want anymore, think of donating them to your local library. I've brought in new clothes I've never worn and traded with a couple of co-workers...one gave me a Scottish wool sweater that I cherish, but it was too scratchy for her. And someone had given it to her!

So recycle among your family, and I've done a lot of that too, or friends also!
Conserve water and electricity. I had another wonderful $91 electric bill. I'm all electric, so getting that low of a bill for any month is a miracle. But I've got several appliances on power strips and turn them off when I'm not using them. This includes the TV and VCR, the microwave oven and the convection oven. They're all vampires when it comes to sucking in electricity even when not in use. The telephone charger for your cell phone is another. Unplug it when you're not using it. :)

Because of the water restrictions we have here, I always empty water filled glasses that I don't drink during the day into plants either outside or in. I had to soak some dishes that didn't get clean in the dishwasher, so the water in the bowls will go outside also after it's done its job. I don't run the water while I'm brushing my teeth. I turn it back on when I'm ready to rinse. Do you realize how much water runs down the sink while you're not using it?

Oh, and I don't use tons of water cups either. One tea cup for the day. One water glass for the day...oftentimes used for several days. Why use tons of glasses when I need only one?

I love how green everything is in the spring, mainly because we've had so much rain lately. You can see the corn growing beyond the yard and it will be a jungle landscape soon. I love it, until it turns to paper and is a fire hazard!

Enjoy a day outside, enjoying the life all around us, the green earth, the trees, the birds twittering about, enjoy our earth. It's the only one we've got! :)

Happy Earth Day! What do you do to help conserve or are you planting anything this year?

I'm off to write a book! :)

Happy Earth Day!! I to try to conserve water, recycle, reuse, refuse to waste our resources. We need to take care of the only home we have. Today I'll take my trash bag and my grandkids and we'll pick up more trash in my nature center.

For some reason we have decided to try cherry tomatoes this year and are anxiously watching the blooms waiting for them to start fruiting. (Have I mentioned that I am an impatient gardener?). We try to recycle whenever possible. It's 100F here today so I don't think we are going to be conserving electricity though!

I totally envy you growing tomatoes! I LOVE them and used to grow them but the last few times I tried, I had gorgeous leaves. Lots of blossom set used on the flowers. Lots of bees in the garden. And lots and lots of gorgeous leaves.

LOL

Wow, you poor thing about the hot weather. I actually had to put on the heat earlier today! Do you have ceiling fans? I installed them in my other home everywhere. And have them here. I love them and unless it's really hot, I often can get by with just the ceiling fans circulating the air. Now, when it's 110, the AC is on!

Happy Earth Day to you as well. those pictures are all so pretty...Here it was so gloomy and cold outside today. As for Earth Day and how me and my family help, we recycle, use the green bin for compost, take things to the stations that are harmful to the environment so they dispose of it properly. We use grocery bags that are made from recycled bags and material. Every little thing counts.

Absolutely, Savannah! I recycle ink cartridges from my computer also. :) And batteries! :)
