I Love Fan Mail!

Scotland, one of the lovely stone walls and the green moss growing on the stone walkway.

When I get home from work, I have to work. I have to write, answer emails, try to pre-write a blog so in the morning before work I can write, answer emails, and post some more blogs.

And I'm tired. But last night I had a fun conversation with a fan. She wanted to know if I was going to write about another of the Highland brothers.

Of course. It just wouldn't be fair if I wrote Malcolm's story, than his older brother James's, and didn't write about Dougald, who is a rogue with the ladies, and I really am wanting to write his story. And then there is Angus, the younger brother. And in The Accidental Highland Hero, a cousin also. And...well, I can't help myself. I LOVE Highlanders!

And of course I'm thrilled readers love them too!!! So yes, there will be more.

I've been listening to an audio book, that I've been enjoying for the Highlander brogues, although disappointed that it is abridged so it's shortened it quite a bit and I know I'm missing out on some of the book. But the family has 17 brothers. A little too much, I'm thinking.!!!

But well, just think if you had 17 brothers (different mothers of course because in those days can you imagine a woman living through all that?)...but you could have 17 lassies and what a whole bunch of tales that would be.

I was honored to be asked to join a group of paranormal authors on a new blog too! http://darkertemptations.wordpress.com/ I will have to have something different to say from this blog, just like my Casablanca blog is always original. I will only be posting twice during the month, so I should be able to do it, and I love the site!

I'm off to work and I don't truly know how it happened, but it is already Wednesday, hump day, and I'm thrilled, because it's like when I get halfway done on a mss, it's a downhill slide from there and before I know it, the book is done and I can start on another!!!

I have 8,000 words to write if I'm to make the halfway point this weekend. :) Which means I better get hopping!!!

Ever feel that exhilaration when you reach the halfway point of anything?

Even when I had to run for two miles in the army, making the first mile meant all the world to me! Only a mile to go...yes! I can do it!

Have a super day!!!

Making Far Out Goals

Normally, I say if you're going to make a goal, make it attainable. But sometimes, we need to push ourselves. And so I've got a way out far out goal to accomplish by this weekend. I have to work the weekend after next, so this is it.

I want to reach the halfway point over the weekend on The Highland Wolf in Paradise.

I finished a third of the book by last weekend.

Is making it to the halfway point on the book by this weekend doable? Sure, if I write a 1,000 words a day and write 5,000 this weekend. I can do it. Can I write a 1,000 words a day when I have to work also? Sometimes.

I have 10,000 words to write this week. I wrote 10,000 the last two weeks, which is why I'm way ahead of schedule, and this book isn't due until Dec, I believe. Or maybe earlier. I can't remember. But I'm ahead of schedule anyway. But before I was thinking of a weekly word count goal, I was thinking I'd have the book done by the end of March. Not so. It wouldn't be finished until April.

And that's why I began making far out goals. I want it done by March. I have it in my head it's going to be done by March.

Will it be done by then?

Only time will tell.

Do you ever set impossible goals for yourself and attain them?

Wolf Cub Food

Donna sent this to me and I had to share it with everyone.

What do wolf cubs eat? Kibbles and Bits?

At the wolf reserve that I visited, they were feeding the wolves and wolf dogs chicken bones. Raw chicken bones. No meat at all. Poor wolves. I asked about the bones, knowing that we're not supposed to feed dogs bones because they splinter.

The woman said that, "Yes, cooked chicken bones can splinter. We only feed raw chicken bones to them."

So that's what's in these bags of kibbles and bits. Raw chicken bones.

Werewolves eat much better.

Off to work. It's Monday, and you know what that means. It's Monday. The bad part is when Tuesday's a Monday also.

Terry, who excitedly got 3,ooo words Sunday night for this week's word count. It all had to do with speedos, and the like.

Mitchell and McHenry are Done!

Irvin Clan Bear is too, but I've already posted his picture earlier. Were they having a cup of tea, do you think?

Maybe with a brace o' whiskey.

The problem with weekends is they are way too short. :) And I'm WAY behind on word count. But I did send off the newsletter and hope everyone enjoys the next part of ALLURE OF THE WOLF and I managed to change my website up quite a bit.

Before I "fixed" it, it was very, very long and very narrow, so I'm hoping this is better visually to work with. If I could afford a website designer, I'd have one! But alas, 'tis just whatever "magic" I can perform on my own.

I'm way behind on word count what with reworking the website and finishing up the bears and getting them ready to ship, which means to make 5,000 this week, I still have to have to write 4100 today. And I'm bound and determined to do it! I will be 1/3 of the way through The Highland Wolf in Paradise when I do finish that!

While I was doing research the other day, I had to email the place that provides for catamaran dinner cruises in the Grand Cayman Islands. They didn't have a menu listed, so I needed to find out just what drinks or gourmet food was served. Melissa was very nice to send me their menus and cocktail list. And so, when you're on the cruise with Duncan and you get to eat all that scrumptious food, you will know that it actually is on the menu! :)

Hope you have a great one!!!

Off to write! :)

Working on Ritas and Bears!

This wolf has her hands, uhm paws and teeth full of bounding wolf pups to take care of for now. :)

The Scottish plaid came in, so I'm working on Mitchell, McHenry and Irvin Bears--finishing their sashes and bonnets. :) Hope to ship them on Monday. :)

But I'm also enjoying the Rita Contest, at least the first book I'm reading. Can't say which I'm judging, but the first is a winner in my book!

Back to work on the bears! Hoping to get 5500 words written this weekend also on Highland Wolf in Paradise, which will make it 1/3 of the way done!!

And, woohoo--I have a release date for A Ghost of a Chance at Love--December! So it'll come out the same time as Dreaming of the Wolf. :)

Have a super Saturday! Got to finish sewing up bonnets!

I'm Inheriting a Million Trillion Dollars!!!

First off, before you tell me you're a long lost relative who loves me dearly, or a friend who has finally relocated me after years of searching, hear my story out...

After taxes, I'm sure there'll be barely enough to go around...And the truth is...I'm turning it down!!!

Okay, so how many of you get the: "I'm princess so and so from some other nation and I've written to you about how my father, the king, died and left me all this money from diamonds and emeralds and gold, oh my, and I need to get the cash from selling all this expensive stuff out of the country because my country is revolting. Well, maybe not that my country is revolting, but my people are revolting. Well, since I'm a princess, they're really no longer my people because daddy was the king and I can't rule in his place.

So I've got all this money and if you will give me your address, date of birth, social security number, bank account, and name of your first and last born, I will trust you when I send you a million trillion dollars and you can have ten percent, which amounts to a lot. And that's just because you are a good Christian and will be honest and take care of it for me because my father the king, well, deceased, would want it that way.

I have written before, but didn't get a response. Please, I'm in fear of my life and must leave right away, so contact me as soon as possible so I can transfer the million trillion dollars.

Your friend in this life and the next, Princess Lei."

Of course there are a million trillion versions of the poor princess's flight. Kind of like a writer's million trillion versions of the same story.

But this morning, of all things, I got one on Facebook. Yep, a personal message sent to me from a princess. No, not a princess. But someone else who is desperate to send me a million trillion dollars to my safekeeping.

And of course, the million trillion dollars is on its way by federal express.

In truth, the bears and books for the Australian Romance Readers Silent Auction for flood victims are on their way to Australia, and the book for the Brenda Novak diabetes auction is also.

I can't afford to take in a million trillion dollars. The IRS would want it all in taxes. And someone might accuse me of sending in a hit team to do away with the king so that I could get my 10 percent of his million trillion dollars as soon as his poor little princess daughter was left all alone in the world. So, no, it would not do to give in to greed.

:)

But if you need some extra cash, I'll send the princess your way!

Of course, if anyone wants to send me a sexy wolf, I might be more amenable. This is not Duncan MacNeill on the beach before he shifts into a wolf in the Grand Cayman Islands, however. How do I know? The Highland warrior does not sport a tattoo. Which means the guy can't be a wolf. It's a shame. He does look like he could have been a wolf!

After not being able to go back to sleep at 4 AM, I'm up for the day--last day of work this week, and hope to have 1/3 of The Highland Wolf in Paradise written by this weekend. :) Hopefully. The way I feel right now, I'd be lucky to write one word. I think it's because I'm still thinking of giving away the million trillion dollars.

That's a sacrifice I know I have to make, however. *sigh*

Wolves in the Grand Cayman Islands

I'm soaring with the clouds, on Cloud 9, thrilled beyond measure--my editor, Deb Werksman at Sourcebooks mentioned me!! :) In a good way too!

When I'm writing my werewolf books, I have to think of the dating game, werewolf style. So now, what would a pair of alphas want to do on a date?

Depends on the couple! Just like with us, no two are the same. So we can't stereotype them just like we can't be stereotyped.

And it depends on the setting! That's why I'm enjoying setting the wolves in different locations. It helps to see how they can adapt in different settings. Wolves did live nearly everywhere in the world at one time.

This time, the wolves are in the Grand Cayman Islands. Although, that's because they're werewolves and they can go anywhere, even places that wolves never populated.

Wouldn't you just love to swim with the rays in the islands about now??? Get away from all this snow and cold and ice? We have a thin sheen of ice on the roadways here today, and the wind is making the wind chill much too cold for human types to venture out at all.

But when I think of swimming with a wolf in waters such as these...I'm on Cloud 9 again.

How about a dinner sunset cruise? Three course gourmet dinner? And a late night swim afterward?

Normally wolves wouldn't bother with all this human interaction, but there's a reason they end up doing more than they normally would while they're in the islands. There's a problem to solve, of course, and hiding away at a villa on a secluded beach won't get the MacNeill's money back from the crook, Silverman.

Duncan McNeill of all the Highland brothers from Argent Castle is a warrior through and through and he's bound to force Silverman to cough up the money or else.

But still, in doing so, there's fun to be had--all to do with a female wolf who's sharing her villa with the Highlander.

Faced with scurvy pirates on the Jolly Rogers pirate cruise, can you imagine what Duncan would like to do? Now, since the wolves are so long lived and he's kept up his swordsman's skills, even a tough looking crew like this might not be enough to keep him in line. What do you think? He just wished he had brought his claymore to show off his skills a bit...

So even if none of us can go to the islands--when the book comes out, we can all pretend!

Have a super wonderful Thursday!!!

Australia's Flood Disaster

Storms are wreaking havoc with my Internet today, so trying to get this up before it goes down again!!!

This was sent to me about the flooding in Queensland. If anyone has anything they'd like to donate for the silent auction, just contact the email address below.

As you will be aware there has been another natural disaster in Australia, this time in Queensland with water covering some 75% of the state and indeed areas of other Australian states. In some areas entire townships or suburbs have been completely submerged and residents have lost everything they own.

On 26 March, in conjunction with the Australian Romance Readers Convention, we are planning to hold a Silent Auction to raise funds for the Premier's Flood Relief Appeal. We are looking for items to be included in the Silent Auction during ARRC2011.

If you would like to send something you can contact me at arra.authors@gmail.com (Subject line: Silent Auction) for further information. A photo of the item would be greatly appreciated - a special page will set up on our blog for delegates to view the items available ahead of the auction.

Your generosity in 2009 helped us to raise over $7500 for the victims of the Victorian bushfires and we hope we can match this for the flood victims in Queensland. Anything you can send us would be greatly appreciated.
With thanks

Heather

If you didn't receive your Part 7 or Part 8 or any other part of Allure of the Wolf, email me. I received some emails this morning where readers didn't receive Part 7, but received Part 8 just fine. Not sure where these are going. As you all know, sometimes I don't even get the newsletter!!!

And sometimes it asks if I want to unsubscribe. Huh?

Off to try and get my word count today!!!

Have a great Sunday. It's stormy here--and very cold.

Generosity from a Boy in Scotland

While we were waiting for Brodie Castle to open, we took a long walk down a colorful treed path...

...and ended up at a waterway filled with swans and ducks.

Two older Scottish girls and their younger brother joined us with old bread and began to feed the birds. The boy smiled at me and offered me a chunk of bread to feed to them also.

I was so touched by his generosity and had fun tossing bread to the eager swans and mallards. Sometimes it's just the smallest offers of friendship we can give that make all the difference in the world.

Thanks so much to the generosity of the young man for making my trip to Scotland even more special!

Heroes start out as small boys with big hearts.

I'm Disorganized!!!

After moving to my mother's house two years ago, all my bear materials are still in total disarray. I couldn't bring them in the house earlier, and have since then, but I still can't find anything!

It bugs me because in my other two homes, everything was organized and I could find everything. No problem. Here, I just can't seem to find places to put things so I can keep track of them. Which means I need to get rid of a LOT of stuff that isn't necessary so I can get to the stuff that is necessary!

I've been doing a lot of winter cleaning, but I need to do tons more!!!

Do you ever feel really disorganized? Have you moved and knew where everything was in your old home, but can't find anything at your new location? How do you make it all work for you?

I remember my father telling me he never got rid of anything because he might need it someday. Does that sound familiar? That as soon as he got rid of stuff, that's when he needed some odds and end.

Mom was the opposite. When I moved in with her, she started throwing stuff out of mine. She felt it was unnecessary stuff. So she was helping me. If I had felt it was unnecessary stuff, I would have gotten rid of it before I moved.

But in truth, I do have a lot of unnecessary stuff--materials I'll never use and so I am trying to clean it all out a little bit by little bit. Time is my biggest issue.

Speaking of time, I've got to get back to working on the bears. The two bears in pieces are nearly sewn, but that's the 2nd step in the process after cutting them out. After that, I have to put them together--stuff them, and finish sealing them up. Neither have their plaids though. So for a while, they'll be ready, but naked. :)

But I also need to get some of those book proposals out....*sigh* I keep going over them and not liking them, and reworking them. And I need to get my word count done on The Highland Wolf in Paradise.

Hope you all have a super fun Saturday, and that when you need something like I did this morning, you can find it!!!

Do You Conquer the World Best in the Morning or at Night?

Ann from South Africa friended me this morning on Facebook, and I loved the picture she had, so "borrowed" it to share with everyone! Thanks, Ann!

This is truly TGIF!!! I'll be working on teddy bears and student lessons, looking over my daughter's applications for intern programs, and working on The Highland Wolf in Paradise.

I've pretty much decided that after doing tons of research on sword and arrow wounds--I don't want to wound my heroine that way in The Twist in Time, the new Highland time travel I'm working on, on the side. Okay, so the weather was changeable that time of year--but would the king have gone on a hunt if the weather was really bad? I don't think so. :)

So this is definitely TGIF!!! And I'm excited to get to it all!

I might even send the newsletter early!

Did you know I'm a morning person? In Legend of the White Wolf, Faith is a morning person and Cameron is a nighttime person. My dad was a morning person, and my mother, a nighttime person. She would make him stay up late. He'd make her get up early. We all have different clocks and even if we force ourselves out of our natural sleep rhythm to work, we really never change that part of us.

In the morning, I'm ready to conquer the world. After a full day of work, I'm ready to chill out, although I usually force myself to keep working on stuff until I go to bed because of deadlines and all. But still, I begin to wilt at night.

What about you? Are you the energizer bunny in the morning? (My mother used to call me that in an annoyed way because I was so full of energy in the morning!) Or do you spring to life like a vampire or....werewolf, at night?

Have a super wonderfully fun Friday!

Not Sugar Plum Fairies Floating in My Head

Edinburgh Castle from the highway, traveling at highway speeds while trying to catch a picture. It was foggy that day also when we returned to the city before I went home the next day.

This morning I woke at the ungodly hour of 4 AM and so because I couldn't get to sleep again, I began running movie scenes around in my mind. What would stop an arrow from penetrating too deeply?

What kind of arrow wound would be superficial enough to be livable?

How would someone who is on foot in a forest, outmaneuver someone who is on horseback?

Or if the other is on foot, get away from a man's longer stride if a woman fleeing for her life?

Why would Highlanders be there in the first place?

So I "see" different scenarios--and I imagine different ways that the story can work for me. And...I don't know.

LOL Hey, at 4 AM how can I know everything? Yet, it gives me lots of ideas, and the really weird part is that though I usually can't remember these things after waking (I did finally fall asleep)--this time, I can. All the details.

Which is always a really good sign!

For writing a new story like this, I have to do a lot of research. I won't stick with the story for long, since I need to write my word count still on The Highland Wolf in Paradise, and I did leave them in a sticky situation. :) I also still need to come up with 3 wolf proposals. But I'll play around with the time travel for a little bit longer, than get my word count on the other by this weekend. My laptop hasn't been returned, which is the reason for the delay.

And I've got bear orders to work on this weekend also! :) 1 Bear is made, but I just need to embroider the paws. 1 bear is almost whole. :) And 2 are cut out and ready to be sewn. Then I need to make the bonnet and sash for the one, but the other 2 I had to order, so it'll be a couple of weeks before I get the clan plaids from Scotland.

I had wished I could have picked some up when I was in Scotland!

Off to play around with the time travel. Have a glorious Thursday! This is my late night, and I'm afraid yesterday was another madhouse.

Dreaming of Time Travels....

Scotland as the sun was setting!

While having a horrible bout of allergy troubles last night, I had a nightmare that my mother was alive, but even though the nightmare was so real, I knew intellectually she wasn't. It was probably prompted by a friend of hers contacting me, who was looking for me on Facebook and wanted to know what had happened to her. I thought I'd gotten hold of her friends, but must have missed this one. *sigh*

But then as I was trying to get to sleep--which I never did--the kernel of a story began to invade my brain. Okay, so if I wasn't trying to sleep because I have to work, it wouldn't have been so rude an occurrence. It would have been welcome.

Often when I come up with an idea in the middle of the night, if I don't write it down, I forget it. But this one I couldn't forget. Which means one of these days, I'll have to write it. :)

It's set in medieval times in England and Scotland, like Winning the Highlander's Heart and The Accidental Highland Hero, only the heroine is a contemporary American who finds herself in lots of hot water as she takes a twist in time into the past.

The hero is a Highlander, though I'm not sure how he figures into the story, only he has to get the strange woman to safety. :)

In any event, I wrote notes this morning, did some research, and darned if I don't have to go to work! :) When I want to write the scenes I already have floating around in my brain!

Double sigh.

But I am excited about the possibilities of this story. And even if I still find it rude that stories begin to fill my head when I'm trying to sleep, I'm glad this one did!

Yesterday was as hectic as Monday. Will it slow down today???

Have a super Hump Day!

Off to the grind--to quote my dad!

More Bear Sales!

Just received 2 more bear orders--a McHenry Clan Bear and a large mauve bear.

Here is Penny Bear, reclining, happy to enjoy the new year! :) I have to order the clan fabric for McHenry, so will show him off later. :)

And I had interest in two boy bears---I usually use my grizzlies or lighter brown bears, although some want them for girls also. :) This is the grizzly in the small bear.

Grizzly Bear

And this is the lighter brown.

have made their way to homes as far away as Australia and South Africa! Many have gone to homes in Canada, some to China, one to Russia even! And Khazakistan, too!
They've won Best in Show at Fort Lauderdale's Doll and Bear Show in years past, Best Dressed bear for jesters and wizards, and Most Unique bear for a peg leg pirate bear. :) They've been in several magazines: Texas Monthly, Texas Co-op Monthly, The MacNeill Galley, Teddy Bear Review and several newspapers also!
And they were in the film: The International Teddy Bear Connection by Spectral Vision Films.

Yesterday was a madhouse at work...and you know how cold it was at my house, well it was sooo hot at work. Of course I was dressed for the cold. And was burning up at work. Argh. And my laptop is still down with a virus.

I have some of the story for the Highland Wolf in Paradise to type up this morning, if I have time, and hopefully made my word count for yesterday, but I reworked my proposal for Rogue of a Highland Wolf, and am attempting to write one for Tom's story. :) And then, I've got to propose another. I've had some more interest in Rosalind's story, sister to Ryan McKinley (from Wolf Fever). But might do another Highland wolf story first. :) Or...some other. :) I started one some time ago--actually, a couple of others--that had to do with Heart of the Wolf's pack. So might consider writing one of those. :)

Question--if a female wolf and a male wolf have a wrestling match, and she's in wolf form and he's not, who wins?

I'm off to work! Have a super Tuesday! I'm hoping it will be less hectic at work today. :)

More Bear Sales, Julie's Wolf Dog, and Sia's Dragon Story!!

This is Julie's lovely wolf dog, Winddancer's Harley at 7 months of age! In the tall wintered grass, he blends in, giving us a nice profile pose. Thanks so much, Julie, for sharing your wolf with us!! He's huge, even at just that age! And beautiful!

And Sia did a lovely story on her blog yesterday, and it had to do with a dragon shifter. This one is just a baby. :)

Just sold another Irvin Celtic Clan Bear and a Mitchell Clan Bear! This is Armstrong! Need to order some more fabric from Scotland!

I need to get my 1,000 words today on The Highland Wolf in Paradise, and get the newsletter off. So I'm off to work in just a moment. It's VERY cold here. No heat in this part of the house, but I'm stuck working in this part of the house because... my laptop is down. Argh. Virus. Time for a meltdown.

Have a super great Sunday!!! Hopefully the newsletter will go out okay this time!

New Year's Resolutions--Not

Years ago I used to make them. And I'm extremely goal-oriented, have to be to keep up with everything. But I used to make lists, and mark everything off that I'd accomplished during the day, but hate it when I had stuff that needed to be done that wasn't on "THE LIST" and thereby couldn't be marked off.

Yet, I had done so much more each day that wasn't accounted for. Yes, I needed a 12-step program for list making. Now, this is not to say making lists is bad. If I made them, I might get a little more done each day. If I already didn't get so much done. But they were taking a lot of time to write and cross off the things I finished, and stew about the things I didn't that I finally said--THAT'S IT! No more list making.

And you know what? I could live just fine without them. Except for grocery lists and when I run into town to do errands, sometimes I make a list so I don't forget anything. But to make daily lists of what I need to accomplish?

Nope. So that goes along with goal making for the New Years. What is my goal? To write lots! To see the New Mexico wolf reserve if I can this year with a couple of co-workers. And to go to the RWA Conference if I can--money wise and vacation wise. To propose 3 more wolf books to my editor.

And other than that, those are my goals!

What about you? Are you/have you been a list maker? Do you feel you've let things fall through the cracks? If you set goals, do you accomplish them?

In any event, I wanted to wish you a wonderful New Years and have a terrific New Year's Day!!! After I got home from the party, I stayed up until nearly 2 AM ringing in the New Years even on the West Coast as I fought the bad guys and saved the good guys in Dragon Age. Of course, I couldn't sleep past 6:30 AM either....so that means I will try to make it a goal to take a nap later today. Maybe. :) But then again, I need to get to work on the Highland Wolf in Paradise, and I need 3600 more words this weekend to reach my goal. *snicker*...I did say I made some goals! :)
